Christmas at The Shoe

The Girls and I made cookies for Santa! (Yet another joy of having Grandma around -- there are actually pictures of me doing things with my children.)

The Boys did help decorate the cookies!

Nothing better than new Christmas Eve Pajamas!

Aanother reason we will miss Grandma when she leaves. Not only is she a great story teller, but she released all the toys which were wired or sewn into their boxes.

While Tammy may believe she has the loudest, most annoying toy, this fire truck is louder than a real fire truck. I think my neighbors can hear it.

Thank God for family - including crazy cousins- who come to visit and bring more presents!

Sometimes even Christmas becomes to much to take when you are two!

Grandmas Are The Best

Taking a cue from Lynliu, Grandmas are the Best. I remember going to my Grandmother's for one New Year's Eve. The next day we asked my Mother if we could stay at Grandma's a little longer. She said for us to call when we were ready to come home. We went home on January 7th. Each day Mom would check in and we would choose to stay another day.

Now it is my Mother's turn at being the Grandma and she is truly the best! Today she managed to get all three Kids to nap AT THE SAME TIME!!!!! The Old Man and I have to work this week but our daycare chooses not to do so. Therefore, my amazing Mother volunteered to come in and stay at The Shoe in our absence. While I am thankful for the assistance, I must admit I've been a little worried about dear old Mom. I keep thinking she doesn't realize what she has agreed to do. However, when I called to check in this afternoon and she reported on the nap situation, I am no longer worried! I guess my brother, sister and I trained her well!

At almost 58 years old, my mother took her first commerical flight to get here. Doodlebug now thinks we found Grandma at the airport and we can just go there and get her whenever we want to see Grandma. The Monster declared he had a great idea. He thinks Grandma should just move all her things into our guest room. The Monster also declared that he wants to marry me. When I informed him he is to late that I am already married to his Dad, he said that was okay, he would marry Grandma since she isn't married. Needless to say, we will all be sad when Grandma has to go back to the airport on Thursday morning!

Calvin & the Snowmen - Enjoy!

Remind you of anyone?

Happy Birthday to Me!

No you didn't forget it and you are not late, the actual event isn't until tomorrow. Yes I will be celebrating (well, not really) the fourth anniversary of my 30th birthday.

However, in anticipation of the blessed event, I had such an amazing weekend!!! Mrs. M and I took The Boss and her Princess to see The Nutcracker! I have 1) never been to the Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth, 2) never seen the Nutcracker and c) never seen a Ballet. Hard to say who of the four of us enjoyed it more. Mrs. M. played various parts in the Nutcracker as a small child and enjoyed being the "veteran" while The Boss, Princess and myself took in the full experience. Just a super great day!!!

On Sunday, some of my Tuesday Night playgroup pals and I went to see The Holiday and to partake of some adult beverages. Again an amazingly wonderful time with nothing really outstanding to report other than how amazingly good-looking Jude Law is in that movie. Having not seen a movie since the last Harry Potter, I was just excited to be part of the real world.

Throughout all of these adventures it did not escape me how wonderfully blessed I am. I have amazing friends as well as an amazing family. Lately I have reminded myself that about 14 years ago I had dreams of running the world. I was going to be the first female Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Now all I dream about is running a bubble bath. However, I have realized that while I may not be Queen of the world, my kids think I'm a Superstar, my Man thinks I'm amazing and in the four walls of my home I am the Queen. What could be better!

Amazing Friends & Grounded Kittens

Every person should have friends that you can count on no matter what! I have been bless with several such friends but few rank along with M&M. The Old Man went to college with Mr. M and Mrs. M. I meant Mrs. M at my wedding but have known Mr. M since I was a Sophomore in College (when I started dating the Old Man). We have been blessed that we have lived in the same general area since college and now they live 13 minutes from my front door.

On Saturday we declared it a Stay-At-Home day for the little two and myself while the Boss played in a very cold soccer tournament. We had a great day playing around the house and finding whatever I could to entertain two small children. Later in the day, The Old Man volunteered at a local Holiday event. I decided that it would be different to eat dinner by candlelight. So, I and the three children were peacefully eating out dinner when Doodlebug asked for more juice. I got her juice and when returning to my candlelit table, I noticed something moving on the floor. The kittens had brought in a snake!!!!!

Now there is a disclaimer here. I am unreasonably icked out by snakes. They scare me worse than any other creature I can imagine. I called the Old Man twice but no answer on his mobile phone. So, desperately trying to think who could come and get this thing out of my house, I remember the Fire Chief (who works out with The Old Man three days a week) lives just up the street but I didn't have his phone number. Dialing 9-1-1 would just get The Old Man laughed at all week at the office. The next closest would be Mr. M. So I called.

In the movie version of this story he would have slapped me on the face and all would be well, however, that was a little difficult through the phone. He did, in his very calm lawyerly voice, talk me through getting my broom and sweeping the creature out my back door. Now keep in mind this offending creature was under Doodlebug's highchair while she was still sitting in it! All I knew was I wasn't picking the thing up but it kept eyeing the leg of her chair like it was looking for higher ground! Once I bravely swept the thing outside, I locked both it and the kittens out in the yard. It looked much bigger under my table but with these creatures, to me, size really doesn't matter. It's mere existence in my house was more than I could take.

So, I am once again very thankful for Mr. M and now whenever The Old Man is not home, the kittens are grounded from going outside!
